My name is Simone Norman and I am a comedian, actress, writer, and local organizer living in central Brooklyn. I am running to be on the board of 99.5 FM WBAI because I believe it sits at the nexus of entertainment and progressivism, which is where I spend most of my time. As an aspiring entertainer who also is also dedicated to leftist causes, I would love the opportunity to contribute to and help influence this fantastic radio station.
As AOC's Deputy Fundraising Director, I booked and hosted many comedy and music shows to benefit our campaign operations. Getting to use my talents and connections in performance within the realm of progressive politics was one of the highlights of my career, and I am always actively looking for other ways to replicate that.
I have produced and hosted an episode of the WBAI show "Revolutions Per Minute," the podcast of the NYC Democratic Socialists of America (of which I am a member); the episode was entitled "Ca$h For Socialism: Why And How?" On the episode, AOC's deputy campaign manager Michael Carter and I discussed the ins and outs of grassroots fundraising - a tricky operation when corporate donations are not a factor. It's a great episode and I highly recommend a listen!
I would love to formally dedicate my time and resources to furthering the goals of this radio station so it can continue to produce quality independent leftist programming.
